So, what is your back up plan?

Recently, I was talking to a family member about my new business. As I was talking, the person said..."So what is your back up plan". I was actually startled. This comment took the wind from my sails as I was explaining with excitement about what I was building for my future. This one small sentence shocked me so bad it was as if they grabbed me by my shoulders and tried to shake some sense into me. I stopped for a second and realized I had never even considered a back up plan.

So I thought for a second...What is my backup plan? What will I do if I fail?

It is amazing the negative energy that can be transmitted from one single question. I am so intensely focused on my goals for this business that I NEVER EVEN CONSIDERED FAILURE until this comment was made.

My answer back to this person was simply: "I don't want a backup plan, you see, to have a backup plan is a plan to fail."

As a responsible human being, it is important to make plans. As you chart your course, you will encounter obstacles that need to be overcome. Plan for those obstacles and figure out a way to get around them. When a ship sets off the sea. Do you think they have a back up plan? So many things can go wrong. Yet, the captain knows he must stay his course no matter what happens. there are no backup plans. Just plans.

I love the picture of Tiger Woods above. It shows his backup plan if his first plan doesn't work. It's another club! Not a baseball bat, or a fire hose or a spatula and apron. His backup plan is really just a part of his original plan. He knows if one club won't get him the shot he is looking for the other club will. Running a business is the same way. Whether its placing ads, finding a good vendor, hiring employees or getting that recipe just perfect. Don't quit. Keep trying until you find something that works. That is the only back up plan you need.

Daily Affirmation: I have the confidence to overcome.

America's most connected marketer

Today I had the privilege of having lunch with america's "most connected marketer" David Dutton. If you don't know David, you really need to check out his website http://www.whoisdaviddutton.com/ David is famous for his "ghetto-fabulous" videos that show people how he makes money on the internet. Luck has it he lives in the same town as me. Through a few e-mails, we met for lunch. My first impression, a regular guy, with a regular car making mad cash online. No glamour or glitz here, No elaborate don't-you-wish-you-had-what-I-have lifestyle. What David excels in is being true to himself. He is a dynamic personality that is passionate about showing people what he does to make money online.

And what he does is genius. I learned more in that hour than in months of internet research. There just is no replacement for experience. David's power is in numbers. Not big numbers, but the little ones. A lot of little ones that add up. He knows how to drive the traffic that is looking for exactly what he has. That is why he has a ridiculously high conversion rate. In addition, he builds products once, then sets them on autopilot, sits back and collects the payments. If you want to learn how to drive traffic, you need to check him out.

Today's promise: No Cussing

Daily affirmation: I can achieve my goals.

My how they grow so fast...

Treat your business as if it is your child and watch it growThe struggles and successes of building a business seem awfully familiar. As a father of 5, including twins (boy and a girl) that are about to turn 4 next week, I feel a sense of deja-vu. Then it hit me...building a business is much like raising a child. The similarities are endless.

Human nature shows that we are capable of bearing and raising children. Does this mean we are all capable of building a business? Probably not, some children simply do not have the same opportunities for growth and success as others. Many businesses are treated the same way. When your child is born, something kicks in. This something is love, nurturing, caring, protection, financial support etc. This is the same something that makes you get up in the middle of the night, and worries you to death when the child falls and bumps their head, but also gives you endless joy when they take their first step. People always ask how we do it. How do we deal with 5 children including twins and maintain our sanity. The answer really is simple. We JUST DO IT. No excuses, no complaining. Just deal with the task at hand and move on to the next. One step at a time, one crisis at a time. My wife and I are a team, a force to reckoned with and offer no apologies. (Not really, but it helps to think like that to get through the multiple schedule conflicts.) Aren't these the qualities needed to start a business?

The fear of failure, or not having enough money to support its growing needs, but also the joy of making that first sale, or hitting each milestone along the way. As an experienced father who has raised 5 children, I feel like an expert at this. it seems all too familiar.

My point is this and any one who has children can relate. Treat your business like it is your own child. Children need love, attention, guidance, protection from harm, and financial support. A child is part of you, your own creation. Your business is the same thing. It is your creation that started from a simple idea and continues to grow from there.

Deal with the issues, but enjoy the successes. That is where the memories are made.

Daily Affirmation: I will have financial freedom.

One step at a time

focus on your goals to achieve results
There is an overwhelming amount of information on the internet. It is hard to focus on your true objective when you are constantly bombarded by opportunities. Everyone promises the "get rich quick" program . Most are legitimate, some are scams. But all require some amount of work. After all real work = real money. If you fail to focus on your true objective, you will get sidetracked. Once this happens, you are headed down a path you didn't plan for and will be distracted from your goal. Goals should not be moving targets, yet a fixed point in time that you are working toward. Only when your goal is achieve should it be moved to the next level. If your goal is not met, re-evaluate. Find out what went wrong. Make adjustments and focus on your objectives. One step at a time.

Weeds in your Garden?

The negative people around you are the weeds in your landscape of life. Do yourself a favor and pull the weeds.

-Nathan Burns

I have always felt that fundamentally, people don't change. An employee with attendance problems will always have attendance problems. Criminals will be criminals. Abusers will always be abusers etc. These people tend to correct their problem temporarily, but to always return to their previous ways.

I read a profound analogy on this today. It said problems are like weeds. If you have a garden full of weeds and you cut them down to ground level, suddenly your garden looks beautiful. But the weeds aren't really gone. The roots are still deeply embedded in the ground, waiting for the right conditions to grow. Eventually they will be back and your garden will once again be an untended patch of weeds.

The fact is people can change. However the only way I have personally seen people reverse this cycle is to have a genuine "life changing" experience. A near death type usually works, as does having a child (sometimes). These occurrences have a tendency to profoundly rearrange a persons priorities in life and are like digging out the roots in your garden of weeds.

Don't let red lights hold you back

Red lights are only temporary set backs. Much like distractions that keep you from reaching your goals.
Goals are destinations. When you leave work to go home for the day, nothing is going to stop you from getting there. Even if you get stuck in traffic, get pulled over, stopped at red lights, get in a wreck, or run some errands. Regardless, you are eventually going to get home. All of those things are distractions from reaching your goal. When you work through each one, you will eventually get there.

Settings goals can be difficult. We all have dreams and desires but what does it mean to actually set a goal? And what does it take to achieve it? A goal could be a certain career or position in a company (“I want to be the vice president of finance”), financial (“I want to make $100,000/yr”), spiritual (“I want to attend church every Sunday”). It doesn’t matter what the goal is. What is important is that you set a goal and you EXPECT it to happen. (I EXPECT to make $100,000 per year). Settle for nothing less. It doesn’t matter how we get there, only that we have an end in mind.

If we approach opportunities without first seeing the end result, we will never get there. Picture it your mind then work backward from there. Setting goals to achieve results is the most important step. Write it down and always think about the positive. If you want to get out of debt, Don’t write down the word debt, or debt will find you. Instead think about Cash, or a certain amount in the bank.

Picture what you EXPECT to happen in your mind every day and the path to that destination will manifest. Don’t let red lights hold you back.

Why work half as much?

Recently I made a comment to a group of people that if I took half the energy I apply during my daily J.O.B. to this business, then I will be successful. The feedback I received from that comment was "Well, why don't you want to apply all of your energy?"

Think about this for a minute. think about HOW HARD you work at your JOB, whether its physical labor or answering calls, dealing with customers or employees, waiting tables, driving a vehicle. During an average day, you deal with an enormous amount of CRAP and decision making and expend mountains of creative thoughts, probably never put to good use because of the limits of your position. Chances are you have some pretty negative co-workers to deal with as well. My point is this. It does not take the same amount of energy to be succesful in this business. However, imagine if you did not have to deal with the day in and day out stress of the rat race. Crabby bosses, unfulfilled promises, broken dreams while working for THE MAN.

Taking the same amount of energy and focusing it on yourself and your FREEDOM will produce amazing results. Imagine the FREEDOM of working when you want, where you want and how much you want. With this Freedom, you can get paid what you are actually worth. Not what some JOB thinks you are worth.

Change your Legacy. You owe it to yourself and your future. Let your most stressful decision be what part of the world you want to see next. Why not join a team of positive, like-minded individuals driven to teach you maximum success.

Let me show you how to live a life of freedom and earn real money in the process while teaching others to do the same.

Are you carrying buckets?

In the "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" book Robert Kiyosaki gives the example of someone carrying buckets to supply a town with a water and another person building a water pipe line to carry the water. It took longer for the pipeline to be built but once it was done - the money would continue to come in with or without him. What are you doing? Sadly most people are carrying buckets. They are getting paid based on the hours they work. Even if you are a highly paid surgeon or attorney your income is still limited by the hours you can work. Everybody has been taught to think the harder you work the more money you make. What if that's completely wrong? What if it's the smarter the work, the more money you make? Personally, I prefer to work once and get paid over and over and over again. And there are lots of ways you can create recurring revenue for yourself. It could be via royalties from an invention, a song, or a book. It could be from network marketing. It could be from real estate. It could be dividends from investments. Or it could be from a multitude of other ways aside from the typical 9-to-5 grind.
