I have heard before that when you give, it comes back to you ten-fold. This idea apparently works with gratitude as well.
During my last trip, I met a guy at the hotel breakfast one morning who is in the same business as I am. He has one of those contagious personalities where people tend to gravitate toward him because of his energy. He reminded me of a mix between Jack Black and Chris Farley. He was fun to be around and we had several conversations throughout the day.
I knew immediately he would be awesome at this business. We exchanged numbers to keep in contact. That evening, during an after hours function, he was also there. I watched how people interacted with him. Truly amazing how people he did not even know were immediately attracted to his personality.
About a week later, I was looking through some pictures from the trip and came across one of him. It reminded me how much fun I had that evening. I thought I would send him a quick text just to let him know.
The text was 3 simple words: "Dude your awesome".
He send me a text back that only said "thanks buddy".
Later that day, he called me just gushing appreciation for that text. He said he had been thinking about it all day. He could not get over that fact that anyone would take the time to send him a text like that. He wanted to know what it was that would make me do that.
I just simply thought his energy was worth being noted. I didn't want anything from him. He's not a customer or prospect. I was actually kind of surprised that it affected him so much.
Those 3 simple words not only made his day, but may have created a friendship that could last a long time. In addition, he shared some information with me that may help me in my business. He only lives an hour away and wants to meet up with the wife and kids and just get to know each other.
Gratitude goes a long way. The good news is it does not cost a thing. Had he been a customer or prospect, this could have easily led to additional business.
There seems to be a very simple formula for this: Gratitude = Prosperity. There is plenty in life to be grateful for. Once you learn to discover it and show gratitude, you will begin to reap the rewards ten-fold.
